WHAT I WAS EXPECTING
A women goes to stay at a hotel. A crazy old man runs the hotel and stabs the woman in the shower in the first third of the film. There's an old lady who's either the man's wife or mother or something and you find out at the end that she's dead.

REACTIONS
The biggest surprise for me was that the character of Norman Bates, played by Anthony Perkins, was so young. Anthony Perkins' looks, voice and mannerisms reminded me a lot of Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, The Amazing Spider Man).

The Bates house is the archetypical haunted houses. This must have been where that classic design originated from.
I was curious from the beginning about who was going to take over the story once Janet Leigh died. The mention of the sister was early enough into the story that I forgot about her before she appeared.
Immediately after watching, I skimmed through the 1998 remake by Gus Van Sant. It's fairly pointless as a film, since it's more-or-less shot-for-shot of the original.
Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates: No. Just no. |
